Lyddington Cottage is a charming rustic mud-brick cottage sitting in a large hillside country garden with spectacular views of the mountains and surrounding farmland.
At only 25 km from Christchurch International Airport and 11 kms from Rangiora township it offers a wonderful country holiday destination.
The layout of the cosy sun-bathed cottage makes it ideal as either a couple’s retreat or a family holiday destination . It has two downstairs bedrooms, one with a separate door leading into the communal bathroom and the other with a queen bed. Upstairs is an open mezzanine loft which has a double bed in a curtained alcove. This can cosily sleep 2 but Is probably better for one, there is also a sofa/day bed which can sleep one.
A wood-burner warms the cottage during the winter months with a heat pump as back-up.
An outdoor table and chairs and outdoor sofas enable you to enjoy the sun at all times of the day, There is also an outdoor heater and a barbeque
Guests have 20 hectares of hills and orchard over which to roam while garden lovers can ramble in Lyddington Garden which holds one of the largest old-rose collections in the Southern Hemisphere.
The Ashley River runs below the property and offers hours of family fun with swimming holes and biking along the stop banks .
The cottage is a good base for a number of day-trips: Arthurs Pass and the Canterbury ski-fields, the hot pools in Hanmer Springs, the Waipara vineyards and days in the surf at Waikuku or Woodend beaches as well as hiking on Mt Thomas across the river.
Pets are welcome but the cottage is not fenced for dogs. As there are sheep in the adjacent paddocks and ducks and poultry in the garden dogs must be on a lead.
There are a number of ponds in the surrounding gardens and farmland which are not fenced and this should be noted if bringing small children.
Pets are welcome but guests are asked to keep them off the furniture. As there is no pet-fencing at the cottage and farm livestock all around, dogs must be secured in the cottage, supervised at all times and kept on a leash when walking on the property.
The cottage has its own driveway and is very private but If any assistance is needed the Lyddington homestead and the owners are only 200m away through the garden..
